Sometime Wednesday night the engine failed and we lost several hours of progress toward our destination – Ruse, Bulgaria. By breakfast we were underway again and the crew deftly rearranged our schedule. Activities planned for Thursday will take place Friday and ship-board activities were quickly organized. A spontaneous ice cream social appeared at 4:30 PM and a hosted cocktail party happened at 5:15. Optional activities for Thursday became included (read “free”) on Friday. We were told we’d make up the time in the days to come. All passengers took the changes in stride and picked up a book or found like-minded new friends for bridge, scrabble, or a brisk walk around the upper deck. Experienced travelers know “things happen” when you travel. Adapting to the changes and making the most of the situation is a sign of a good traveler. Grand Circle River Cruises and the Adagio crew did all they could to minimize any inconvenience and our fellow passengers showed they are “good travelers”. We had a great and relaxing day on-board.
