![]() We made a short flight to Adelaide. Note flying within Australia is quite different than home. You pick up your boarding pass at the kiosk, check your bag (no charge to check bags on domestic flights), no one checks your ID, pass quickly through security (shoes and jackets on and smiling security staff), board the plane, receive a meal or at least a snack and drink, enjoy a movie, land, and pick up bags as soon as you arrive in the bag claim area. The whole process is fast, easy and pleasant. Nice... First stop, Cleland Wildlife Park, where we had the opportunity to see endangered species and encounter some of Australia’s most noted wildlife, including kangaroos, koalas, and friendly wallabies Adelaide, the capital of the state of South Australia, is in a great location sandwiched between the Lofty Mountains and the Southern Ocean. Adelaide was one of the first planned cities of the time, the neat grid pattern is interspersed with town squares and multiple large parks. We topped off our first evening in Adelaide with a home hosted dinner. Half of us went to one home, half to the other. Here are some photos from our dinner with Antoinetta and Helena. We we were well wined and dined! Our second day in Adelaide began with a talk by aboriginal elder Lindsay Watson. He taught us a bit about the Aboriginal culture, their history and current situation. Later we progressed to the Art Gallery of South Australia. About noon several of us headed off on a wine tour of McLaren Vale while the others enjoyed the afternoon in the Botanic Gardens, Adelaide Zoo and other sites of Adelaide. Thank you to our fellow travelers for contributing photos for this and previous blog posts... Mel and Lyn Whaley, Randall Kohltfarber, John Menard, Carol Dion and Darrin Ford (our guide)
