It was a long drive to Fethiye where we met our Gulet (Turkish sailboat) for a 4 day cruise. Along the way we stopped to see the ancient Roman ruins of Myra. You know we’ve been in this part of the world too long when you hear us say, “It’s just another ancient amphitheater.” Our next stop was the Church of St. Nicholas in Demre. |
Late afternoon we arrived in Fethiye and boarded the Sadri Ustra I, our home for the next 4 days. She’s about 90’ long, has a large table on the back deck with enough room for all to gather for delicious meals, multiple places to lie comfortably in the sun or shade (your choice) and tiny staterooms for each of us. Our days consist of a morning hike or sightseeing walk, lunch, a nap, swim, afternoon tea, glass of wine, dinner and early to bed. |
Just before turning in we head to the front of the boat to enjoy the stars. With no ambient light, the stars are spectacular. We haven’t seen the Milky Way this way since we were in the Grand Canyon. It’s a good life, very relaxing and I recommend it. We missed the azure blue Mediterranean while inland in Turkey and it’s good to be back. The water is as blue, clear and warm as it was in Greece and we’re enjoying every moment of it. A word about our travel companions… We are 13 easy going and interesting travelers. We’re enjoying each and every one of them.… |
