Corfu is a very short sail from Sardona, Albania. We arrived on time for local Greek dancers to board ship after dinner and entertain us with local folk dances. Well, they entertained us until they got us involved. Then I think we entertained them! |
Our morning outing revealed a different world. Though the buildings appear to be in disrepair, it’s a patina of age rather than decrepit Communist era construction. We enjoyed a bus ride to the top of a mountain to enjoy beautiful vistas and a walk through a small village. Randall and I agreed we could vacation here! Later we arrived in old Corfu Town where the vendors sold their wares amid the picturesque hotels and shops. |
I’ve said little about our weather (mostly hot, humid days with comfortable mornings and evenings) or the seas (mostly smooth as glass). But, I must comment on our afternoon sail from Corfu to the mainland of Greece. Soon after we left the Corfu harbor we were greeted by 3’ rollers, which soon grew to 8-10’. A cacophony of sound from the kitchen spoke of piles of broken dishes. People fled to their cabins to ride it out. We donned our wrist bands (which are purported to prevent seasickness and apparently work) and spent most of the afternoon in our room reading and editing photos! When we left the open water and approached the mainland the hearty sailors among us emerged from our room for cocktails and dinner. We have only a few more nights onboard the Athena and didn’t want to miss a thing! |
