Today the Sept 12 departure group visited the seaside town of Cefalù. After strolling through its medieval streets, they visited a family farm in the countryside. The farmer demonstrated how to make a Sicilian favorite - ricotta cheese. They helped the chef prepare local specialties then enjoyed a hearty lunch featuring the farm’s own products and recipes.
Terry and I planned this itinerary to feature the foods and wines of Southern Italy and Sicily. Our experience so far hasn't disappointed. Receiving photos and reports from the earlier group is really whetting the appetites of those of us who don't leave until Wednesday.
As if the farm visit wasn't enough, this afternoon they visited a medieval palace where a countess welcomed them on a tour of her family’s home. Our travelers joined her for an aperitif and hors d’oeuvres in one of the palaces’ historic chambers. This evening - a traditional Sicilian dinner.
