Thirty seven travelers left home on Sunday and flew over night to Lisbon, arriving Monday morning. It was a long and tiring trip, but everyone arrived on time and "ready to go"! If the long flight wasn't enough, our travelers boarded a bus at the Lisbon airport to transport to Porto, several hours north of Lisbon. |
Note: Generally I write blog with stories and photos while traveling, but this time I'm not on the trip. Terry Johnson and some of the other travelers are sending me photos and stories that I'll use to create the posts. To simplify language, I'll write in first person, as if I'm on the trip. Our itineary called for a visit to Fatima, site where Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Fatima appeared to three shepherd children, on Saturday. However, Saturday, May 13 happens to be the 100th anniversary of the apparition and the Pope will be there. Needless to say, the crowds would be overwhelming so we adjusted the schedule to stop in Fatima on our way north to Porto. In addition to the visitation site, Fatima is a charming town and just the right place for lunch. Tired travelers arrived in Porto in the late afternoon and were greeted by this wonderful pousada for the next three nights. Photos for this posting were provided by Terry Johnson, Lyn and Mel Whaley and Vicki Doerfler.
