We sailed from Split yesterday to the Adriatic islands. Now I know what all the excitement is about! Sun, azure water, red tile roofs, hillsides of lavender and rosemary – all mixed with fresh tomatoes, basil, olive oil and cucumbers. Capers grow on the walls of the buildings – just waiting to be picked, pickled and put into my salads.
The Adriatic Coast is just being discovered by Americans. It’s what the French and Italian Rivieras and the Greek Islands were 50 years ago. Come while you can still afford it, but wait until September when the crowds diminish.
