One of the hallmarks of an Overseas Adventure Travel trips is meeting the locals and learning how they live. The next two days provided plenty of opportunities to do just that.
Next stop historic Reefton, named for it's quartz reefs was once a focal point for gold and coal exploration. On route, we visited the Pike River mining disaster memorial, before continuing to Reefton to experience a Day in the Life of a West Coast town, with a visit to the Bearded Miner’s , a chat with John Bougen and the Great Museum of Stuff being highlights.
After breakfast we traveled the Rubicon Valley via Arthur’s Pass. We stopped for tea at the historic Otira Stagecoach Hotel. The scones were a highlight!
