Thursday we continued our tour, using a bus to transport us to sites more removed from the city center. We started our city tour at the Royal Botanic Gardens where we participated in a traditional smoking (greeting) ceremony with Den, an Aboriginal guide.
We continued through the 19th-century English garden then on to the Shrine of Remembrance, which serves as a memorial for the thousands of soldiers who died fighting in World War I.
Hotels in Australia tend to have housekeeping facilities. Our small suite here in Melbourne wasn't posh, but it was spacious. It included a mini kitchen and a washer/dryer.
