We flew from Tashkent to Bukhara and seemed transported centuries into the past. (Didn’t even have Internet at our hotel which is why I’ve not written for several days.) This 2500 year old city is located in an oasis and was an important stopping place for caravans carrying goods between Asia and Europe. ![]() Despite numerous occupations (the Mongols, Persians, Turks, Soviets) many of the ancient structures survive. We visited the legendary spring brought forth by the prophet Job upon striking the ground with his staff, 9th century mausoleum, 16th century covered bazaars, 18th century mosque and the last Imir’s Fortress from the 19th century, among other sites.
