9/5 - Safely HomeOur friends on the 9/5 departure are safely home from their travels. After today we'll only report the activities of our September 12 group. 9/12 - Italian Riviera > LuccaGoodbye to the beautiful Italian Riviera. We boarded our bus for a short drive to Lucca, a medieval city encircled by 16th-century Renaissance walls. There we had a choice - to discover Lucca on foot or by bicycle. Some chose bikes and the others walked. Either way, we all visited the Cathedral of San Martino, the Piazza Napoleone and the Piazza dell'Anfiteatro. Then, had a taste of the region by sampling some seasonal, local delicacies at specialty food shops. A stop at a leather factory near Florence turned into a shopping frenzy. End the day in a historic Tuscan villa and begin a relaxing 4-night stay. We were treated to a tour of the villa, a welcome drink and a wonderful Tuscan dinner! A few photos left over from prior days. Many thanks to our fellow travelers for the photos they have contributed to our blog - Terry Johnson, Mary Gamble, Mel and Lyn Whaley, Dan Nielson, Jeanne and Pete Hledek.
