We’re home. It’s been an amazing seven weeks exploring the Mediteranean and beyond. We started in Croatia where we boarded a small ship (50 passengers) for a cruise down the Dalmatian Coast through Albania and Montenegro to Greece. We spent 10 days on our own in Greece exploring the Peloponnese and Santorini. From there we flew to Uzbekistan for 8 days where we discovered this fascinating central Asian country which sits at the crossroads of the historic Silk Road. From there we went to Istanbul, terminus of the Silk Road, to begin an 18 day tour of Turkey. We’ve visited countless UNESCO World Heritage Sites. We’ve eaten innumerable delicious tomatoes, melons, kebabs and baklava. We have more understanding of this fascinating world we live in, greater appreciation for the people and cultures who share this planet with us, and new friends. We’re overwhelmed, tired and looking forward to be home for a while! |
We traveled with Grand Circle for the small ship cruise and their subsidiary, Overseas Adventure Travel, for Uzbekistan and Turkey. We’ve again confirmed our confidence in this company. Their itineries are exceptional. While they have good hotels and meals and hit the usual tourist highlights, it’s their extraordinary guides and opportunities to interact with local people that sets their trips apart. |
